1908 - فَضلُ اليَقينِ
1908. THE VIRTUE OF CONVICTION
(وَجَعَلْنَا مِنْهُمْ أَئِمَّةً يَهْدُونَ بِأَمْرِنَا لَمَّا صَبَرُوا وَكَانُوا بِآيَاتِنَا يُوقِنُونَ) .1
"And among them We appointed imans who guide [the people] by Our command, when they had conviction in Our signs." 2
6822.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : خَيرُ ما اُلقِيَ في القَلبِ اليَقينُ .3
6822.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'The best of what has been placed in the heart is conviction.' 4
6823.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : أيُّها النّاسُ ، سَلُوا اللَّهَ اليَقينَ ، وارغَبوا إلَيهِ في العافِيَةِ ؛ فإنّ أجَلَّ النِّعمَةِ العافِيَةُ ، وخَيرُ مادامَ في القَلبِ اليَقينُ ، والمَغبونُ مَن غُبِنَ دِينَهُ ، والمَغبوطُ مَن غُبِطَ يَقينَهُ .5
6823.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'O people! Ask Allah for conviction and seek good health from him, for the greatest of blessings is good health and the best thing that can reside in the heart is conviction. A cheated man is he who has been cheated of his religion and an enviable person is he whose conviction is envied.' 6
6824.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : ما أعظَمَ سَعادَةَ مَن بُوشِرَ قَلبُهُ بِبَردِ اليَقينِ !7
6824.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'How great is the prosperity of one whose heart is blessed with the coolness of conviction.' 8
6825.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: بِاليَقينِتُدرَكُ الغايَةُ القُصوى.9
6825.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'With conviction the ultimate goal can be reached.' 10
6826.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : على قَدرِ الدِّينِ تَكونُ قُوَّةُ اليَقينِ .11
6826.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The strength of one's conviction is proportionate to the extent of one's faith.' 12
6827.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اليَقينُ عِمادُ الإيمانِ .13
6827.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Conviction is the pillar of faith.' 14
6828.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : نَومٌ على يَقينٍ خَيرٌ مِن صَلاةٍ في شَكٍّ .15
6828.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Sleeping with conviction is better than praying with doubt.' 16
6829.الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : لَم يُقسَمْ بَينَ النّاسِ شيءٌ أقَلُّ مِن اليَقينِ .17
6829.Imam al-Baqir (AS) said, 'There is nothing least divided among people than conviction.' 18
6830.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : إنّ الإيمانَ أفضَلُ من الإسلامِ ، وإنّ اليَقينَ أفضَلُ مِن الإيمانِ ، وما مِن شيءٍ أعَزُّ مِن اليَقينِ .19
6830.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Faith is better than submission [islam] and conviction is better than faith, and there is nothing more honourable than conviction.' 20
6831.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام: إنّ العَمَلَ الدّائمَ القَليلَ علَى اليَقينِ أفضَلُ عِندَ اللَّهِ مِن العَمَلِ الكَثيرِ على غَيرِ يَقينٍ .21
6831.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'Continuous but small actions [performed] with conviction are better in the sight of Allah than numerous actions without conviction.' 22

1909 - عِلمُ اليَقينِ
1909. CERTAIN KNOWLEDGE
(كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ الْيَقِينِ * لَتَرَوُنَّ الْجَحِيمَ * ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّها عَيْنَ الْيَقِينِ * ثُمَّ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ) .1
"No indeed! Were you to know with certain knowledge, you would surely see hell. Again, you will surely see it with the eye of certainty. Then, that day, you will surely be questioned concerning the blessing." 2
(وَكَذَلِكَ نُرِي إِبْراهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُوقِنِينَ) .3
"Thus did We show Abraham the dominions of the heavens and the earth, that he might be of those who possess certitude." 4
6832.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله: إنّ اللَّهَ تعالى يَقولُ : ثَلاثُ خِصالٍ غَيَّبتُهُنَّ عَن عِبادِي لَو رآهُنَّ رجُلٌ ما عَمِلَ سُوءاً أبَداً : لَو كَشَفتُ غِطائي فَرَآني حتّى يَستَيقِنَ ، ويَعلَمَ كَيفَ أفعَلُ بخَلقي إذا أمَتُّهُم... .5
6832.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Allah Almighty says, 'There are three things that I have concealed from My servants such that if a person was to see them, they would never do bad: if I was to uncover My veil and they were to see Me such that they had conviction, and if they were to know what I do with My creation when I make them die...' 6

۱۹۱۱. THE SIGNS OF A PERSON OF CONVICTION
۶۸۳۵.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : أمّا عَلامَةُ المُوقِنِ فَسِتَّةٌ : أيْقَنَ باللَّهِ حَقّاً فآمَنَ بهِ ، وأيقَنَ بأنّ المَوتَ حقٌّ فحَذِرَهُ ، وأيقَنَ بأنّ البَعثَ حَقٌّ فخافَ الفَضيحَةَ ، وأيقَنَ بأنّ الجَنّةَ حَقٌّ فاشتاقَ إلَيها ، وأيقَنَ بأنّ النّارَ حَقٌّ فظَهَرَ سَعيُهُ لِلنَّجاةِ مِنها ، وأيقَنَ بأنّ الحِسابَ حَقٌّ فحاسَبَ نَفسَهُ .۱
۶۸۳۵.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'There are six signs of a person of conviction: he has truly attained conviction in Allah and believed in Him, he is convinced that death is true and he is wary of it, he is convinced that Resurrection is true and he fears shame , he is convinced that Heaven is true and he longs for it, he is convinced that Hell is true and his endeavour is apparent in his wanting to be saved from it, he is convinced that the Account is true and so he takes account of himself.' ۲
۶۸۳۶.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : يُستَدَلُّ علَى اليَقينِ بِقِصَرِ الأملِ ، وإخلاصِ العَملِ ، والزُّهدِ في الدُّنيا .۳
۶۸۳۶.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Conviction can be proved by the shortening of one's expectations, sincerity in one's actions, and abstention from worldliness.' ۴
۶۸۳۷.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : مَن أيقَنَ أنّهُ يُفارِقُ الأحبابَ ، ويَسكُنُ التُّرابَ ، ويُواجِهُ الحِسابَ ، ويَستَغني عَمّا خَلَّفَ ، ويَفتَقِرُ إلى ما قَدَّمَ ، كانَ حَرِيّاً بِقِصَرِ الأمَلِ ، وطُولِ العَمَلِ .۵
۶۸۳۷.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Whoever has conviction in that he will depart from his loved ones, will dwell in the earth, be faced with the Account, be in no need for what he has left behind but be in need of what he has sent forth, is worthy of having short expectations and lengthy deeds.' ۶
۶۸۳۸.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : مَن تَيَقَّنَ أنّ اللَّهَ سبحانَهُ يَراهُ وهُو يَعمَلُ بِمَعاصيهِ فَقَد جَعَلَهُ أهوَنَ النّاظِرينَ .۷
۶۸۳۸.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Whoever has conviction that Allah sees him while he continues to commit sins, then he has considered Him the most insignificant of onlookers.' ۸

۱۹۱۰. INTERPRETATION OF CERTAINTY
۶۸۳۳.جَبرئيلُ عليه السلام - و قد جاء إلَى النَّبيِّ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله - : يا رسولَ اللَّهِ ، إنّ اللَّهَ تباركَ وتعالى أرسَلَني إلَيكَ بِهَديَّةٍ لَم يُعطِها أحَداً قَبلَكَ . قالَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : قلتُ : وماهِي ؟ قالَ : الصَّبرُ وأحسَنُ مِنهُ - إلى أن قالَ - قلتُ : فما تَفسيرُ اليَقينِ ؟قالَ : المُوقِنُ يَعمَلُ للَّه كأنّهُ يَراهُ ، فإن لَم يَكُن يَرى اللَّهَ فإنّ اللَّهَ يَراهُ ، وأن يَعلَمَ يَقيناً أنَّ ما أصابَهُ لَم يَكُن لِيُخطِئَهُ ، وأنَّ ما أخطأهُ لَم يَكُن لِيُصيبَهُ ، وهذا كُلُّهُ أغصانُ التَّوكُّلِ ومَدرَجَةُ الزُّهدِ .۱
۶۸۳۳. The Archangel Gabriel (AS), coming down to the Prophet (SAWA) said, 'O Messenger of Allah, Allah Almighty sent me to you with a gift which He has not given to anyone before you. The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'I asked him, 'And what is it?' He said, 'Patience, and something better than that... until he said, 'I asked, 'So what is the interpretation of conviction?' Gabriel said, 'A person of conviction acts for Allah as if he sees Him, and even though he cannot see Allah, Allah can see him; and it is to know with conviction that whatever afflicts him would not have missed him, and whatever has missed him would not have afflicted him. These are all branches of complete trust [in Allah] and the steps to asceticism.' ۲
۶۸۳۴.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : الإسلامُ هُو التَّسليمُ ، والتَّسليمُ هُو اليَقينُ ، واليَقينُ هُو التَّصديقُ ، والتَّصديقُ هُو الإقرارُ ، والإقرارُ هُو الأداءُ ، والأداءُ هُو العَمَلُ .۳
۶۸۳۴.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Islam is submission, submission is conviction, conviction is attestation [to the truth], and attestation is testifying, and testifying is fulfilment [of one's obligations], and fulfilment is action.' ۴

۱۹۱۳. WEAKNESS OF CONVICTION
۶۸۴۳.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : ما أخافُ على اُمَّتي إلّا ضَعفَ اليَقينِ .۱
۶۸۴۳.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'I do not fear for my community anything other than weakness of conviction.' ۲
۶۸۴۴.رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى اللَّه عليه وآله : إنّ مِن ضَعفِ اليَقينِ أن تُرضِيَ النّاسَ بِسَخَطِ اللَّهِ تعالى ، و أن تَحمَدَهُم على رِزقِ اللَّهِ تعالى ، و أن تَذُمَّهُم على ما لَم يُؤتِكَ اللَّهُ .۳
۶۸۴۴.The Prophet (SAWA) said, 'Weakness of conviction is that you satisfy people by displeasing Allah Almighty, and that you praise them for the sustenance that Allah Almighty has given you, and you blame them for what Allah has not given you.' ۴

۱۹۱۲. WHAT CORRUPTS CONVICTION
۶۸۳۹.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : يُفسِدُ اليَقينَ الشَّكُّ وغَلَبَةُ الهَوى .۱
۶۸۳۹.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Doubt and being overcome by one's desires corrupts conviction.' ۲
۶۸۴۰.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: الجَدَلُ في الدِّينِ يُفسِدُاليَقينَ .۳
۶۸۴۰.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Disputing about religion corrupts conviction.' ۴
۶۸۴۱.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : خِلطَةُ أبناءِ الدُّنيا تَشينُ الدِّينَ ، وتُضعِفُ اليَقينَ .۵
۶۸۴۱.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Associating with worldly people defames religion and weakens conviction.' ۶
۶۸۴۲.الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : حُرِمَ الحَريصُ خَصلَتَينِ ولَزِمَتهُ خَصلَتانِ : حُرِمَ القَناعَةَ فافتَقَدَ الرّاحَةَ ، وحُرِمَ الرِّضا فافتَقَدَ اليَقينَ .۷
۶۸۴۲.Imam al-Sadiq (AS) said, 'A greedy person has been deprived of two things, as a result of which he lacks two more things: he is deprived of contentment and so he lacks comfort, and he is deprived of satisfaction and so he lacks conviction.' ۸

1915. INCREASING CONVICTION
6850.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: لَو كُشِفَ الغِطاءُ ما ازدَدتُ يَقيناً .1
6850.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'If the veils were to be uncovered for me my conviction would not increase.' 2
6851.الإمامُ الكاظمُ عليه السلام: تَعاهَدُوا عِبادَ اللَّهِ نِعَمَهُ بإصلاحِكُم أنفُسَكُم تَزدادُوا يَقيناً ، وتَربَحوا نَفِيساً ثَمِيناً .3
6851.Imam al-Kazim (AS) said, 'O servants of Allah, make use of His blessings by reforming your selves and your conviction will increase, and you will gain something precious and valuable.' 4
6852.الإمامُ الرِّضا عليه السلام - لَمّا سُئلَ عَن قَولِ اللَّهِ لإبراهيمَ : (أوَ لَمْ تُؤْمِنْ قالَ بَلى ولكِنْ لِيَطْمَئنَّ قَلْبي)5 أكانَ في قَلبِهِ شَكٌّ؟ - : لا ، كانَ على يَقينٍ ، ولكنَّهُ أرادَ مِن اللَّهِ الزِّيادَةَ في يَقينِهِ .6
6852. Imam al-Rida (AS), when asked about Allah's saying to Abraham: "He said, 'Do you not believe?' He said, 'Yes indeed, but in order that my heart may be at rest", and whether there was a doubt in his heart, said, 'No, he had conviction, but he wanted Allah to increase his conviction.' 7

اللّهمّ صلّ على محمّدٍ وآل محمّدٍ ، وبلّغ بإيماني أكمل الإيمان ، واجعل يقيني أفضل اليقين .
وتقبّل منّي يا مبدّل السيّئات بالحسنات يا أرحم الراحمين .
تمّ الكتاب بحمد اللَّه وتوفيقه ، واتّفق الفراغ من منتخب ميزان الحكمة في يوم ولادة سيدة فاطمة الزهراء عليها السلام في العشرين من جمادى الآخرة سنة أربعمائة وتسعة وعشرين بعد الألف من الهجرة ، والحمد للَّه أوّلاً و آخراً ، والصلاة على سيّدنا محمّد وآله ، والسلام .
O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Raise my faith to reach the most perfect faith and make my conviction to be the most excellent of convictions. And accept from me, O Changer of bad deeds to good deeds, O most Merciful of the merciful.

6845.الامامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: غايَةُ اليَقينِ الإخلاصُ ، غايَةُ الإخلاصِ الخَلاصُ .1
6845.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The peak of conviction is sincerity, and the goal of sincerity is salvation.' 2
6846.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: زُهدُ المَرءِ فيما يَفنى على قَدرِ يَقينِهِ بما يَبقى .3
6846.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'The abstention of a person from all that is perishable is in proportion of his conviction in all that is eternal.' 4
6847.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: التَّوكُّلُ مِن قُوَّةِ اليَقينِ .5
6847.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Trust [in Allah] is from the strength of conviction.' 6
