رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : الغَضَبُ جَمرَةٌ مِن الشيطانِ The Prophet of God (s) said: The Anger is the spark (lit) from Satan. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 265, hadith # 15]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : مِن أحَبِّ السَّبيلِ إلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّوجلَّ جُرعَتانِ : جُرعَةُ غَيظٍ تَرُدُّها بِحِلمٍ ، وجَرعَةُ مُصيبَةٍ تَرُدُّها بِصَبرٍ The Prophet of God (s) said: In the love of the way leading to God, there are two sips of drinks: the drink of anger that you overcome with forbearance, and the drink of calamity that you overcome with patience. ...: قالَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : إنَّ الغَضَبَ مِن الشّيطانِ ، وإنَّ الشيطانَ خُلِقَ مِن النارِ ، وإنّما تُطفَأُ النارُ بالماءِ ، فإذا غَضِبَ أحَدُكم فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ The Prophet of God (s) said: Anger is from Satan (devil), and Satan is created from fire, and fire is quenched with water, thus when anyone of you is overcome with anger, he should perform wudhu (minor ablution). رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله - لَمّا استَوصاهُ رجُلٌ - : لا تَغضَبْ ، قالَ : فَفَكَّرتُ حِينَ قالَ رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله ما قالَ ، فإذا الغَضَبُ يَجمَعُ الشَّرَّ كُلَّهُ Prophet of God (s) while responding to a person who sought an advice, said: ‘Give up anger’. This person says that while the Prophet (s) was speaking, I thought that anger gathers all the evils with it. [Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib, vol. 3, p. 445]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : الغَضَبُ يُفسِدُ الإيمانَ كما يُفسِدُ الخَلُّ العَسَلَ Prophet of God (s) said: Anger destroys faith in the same manner as vinegar destroys honey. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 267, hadith # 22]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : إنَّ لِجَهَنَّمَ باباً لا يَدخُلُها إلّا مَن شَفى غَيظَهُ بمَعصيَةِ اللَّهِ تعالى The Prophet of God (s) said: There is a door in Hell through which no one will enter except the person who used to get angry while disobeying God, the most high. [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol.1, p. 98]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله - لَمّا سَألَهُ رَجُلٌ : اُحِبُّ أن أكُونَ آمِناً مِن سَخَطِ اللَّهِ - : لا تَغضَبْ على أحَدٍ تَأمَنْ غَضَبَ اللَّهِ وسَخَطَهُ The Prophet of God (s) when asked by a man that he loved to remain safe from the anger of God, said: Don’t get angry on anyone and you will be safeguarded from the anger of God and His displeasure. رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : يا عليُّ ، لاتَغضَبْ ، فإذا غَضِبتَ فَاقعُدْ وتَفَكَّرْ في قُدرَةِ الرَّبِّ علَى العِبادِ وحِلمِهِ عَنهُم ، وإذا قيلَ لكَ : اِتَّقِ اللَّهَ فَانبِذْ غَضَبَكَ ، وراجِعْ حِلمَكَ The Prophet of God (s) said: O Ali ! Never be overpowered by anger, and if you get angry, sit down, and reflect that Lord, in spite of His unlimited power over His servants, is so tolerant towards them. And when it is said to you: ‘Be afraid of God’ then give up your anger and return to your forbearance. [Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 14]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : إنَّ هذا الغَضَبَ جَمرَةٌ مِن الشيطانِ تَتَوَقَّدُ في قَلبِ ابنِ آدمَ ، وإنّ أحَدَكُم إذا غَضِبَ احمَرَّت عَيناهُ ، وانتَفَخَت أوداجُهُ ، ودَخَلَ الشيطانُ فيهِ The Prophet of God (s) said: This anger is a spark from Satan that burns in the heart of son of Adam (human being), and when anyone of you gets angry, then his eyes become red, his veins swell and Satan enters inside (takes hold of) him. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 5, p. 267, hadith # 21]

عنه صلى الله عليه وآله - لأصحابهِ - : ما الصُّرَعَةُ فيكُم ؟ قالوا : الشَّديدُ القَويُّ الذي لا يُوضَعُ جَنبُهُ ، فقالَ : بلِ الصُّرَعَةُ حَقُّ الصُّرَعَةِ رَجُلٌ وَكَزَ الشيطانُ في قَلبِهِ واشتَدَّ غَضبُهُ وظَهَرَ دَمُهُ ، ثُمّ ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ فَصَرَعَ بحِلمِهِ غَضَبَهُ The Prophet of God (s) asked his companions: Who is the best wrestler among you ? They replied: Whoever wouldn't fall on his back over ground is the most powerful. The Prophet (s) then said: No ! In reality the most powerful wrestler is the person who, when provoked by the spark of Satan in his heart to become severely angry and when his complexion is reddened by it, remembers God at that moment and successfully overpowers his anger by forbearance. عنه صلى الله عليه وآله : الصُّرَعَةُ كُلُّ الصُّرَعَةِ ، الصُّرَعَةُ كلُّ الصُّرَعةِ ، الصُّرَعةُ كلُّ الصُّرَعةِ : الرَّجُلُ الذي يَغضَبُ فَيَشتَدُّ غَضَبُهُ ، ويَحمَرُّ وَجهُهُ ، ويَقشَعِرُّ جِلدُهُ ، فَيَصرَعُ غَضَبَهُ The Prophet of God (s) said: The most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! the most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! the most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! The man who when angered severely and when his face becomes red (with anger), his skin becomes bumpy with gooseflesh (because of anger), is able to knock down his anger ! عنه صلى الله عليه وآله : ما تَجَرَّعَ عَبدٌ جُرعَةً أفضَلَ عِندَ اللَّهِ مِن جُرعَةِ غَيظٍ كَظَمَها للَّهِِ ابتِغاءَ وَجهِ اللَّهِ The Prophet of God (s) said: No sip of drink that a servant drinks is best in its excellence near to God, that is the drink of anger which he drinks for the happiness of God seeking nearness to Him. عنه صلى الله عليه وآله - لَمّا رَأى قَوماً يَدحُونَ حَجَراً : أشَدُّكم مَن مَلَكَ نفسَهُ عندَ الغَضَبِ ، وأحمَلُكُم مَن عَفا بعدَ المَقدِرَةِ The Prophet of God (s), when he came out one day, and saw some people lifting a heavy stone, said to them: The most powerful among you is the one who is able to control himself when anger takes over him and most forbearing among you is the one who, when he has overpowered (his enemy), forgives him. أوحَى اللَّهُ إلى داودَعليه السلام : إذا ذَكَرَنِي عَبدِي حينَ يَغضَبُ ، ذَكَرتُهُ يومَ القِيامَةِ في جَميعِ خَلقِي ، ولا أمحَقُهُ فِيمَن أمحَقُ The Prophet of God (s) said: God sent revelation to Dawood (a): When my servant remembers me while (he is) in anger, on the Day of Judgment I will remember him among all my creatures and will not let him among the perished ones who will perish (because of my punishment). رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : إذا غَضِبَ أحَدُكم وهو قائمٌ فَلْيَجلِسْ ، فإن ذَهَبَ عَنهُ الغَضَبُ وإلّا فَليَضطَجِعْ The Prophet of God (s) said: When anyone of you is overpowered by anger, if he is standing, he should sit down. Then if still anger is not overcome, he should lie down. [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 3, p. 450]

رسولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وآله : ألا وإنَّ الغَضَبَ جَمرَةٌ في قَلبِ ابنِ آدمَ ، أما رَأيتُم إلى حُمرَةِ عَينَيهِ وانتِفاخِ أوداجِهِ ؟! فَمَن أحَسَّ بِشيءٍ مِن ذلكَ فَلْيَلصَقْ بالأرضِ The Prophet of God (s) said: Beware that anger is the spark lit in the heart of son of Adam. Haven't you seen this in the red eyes of angered and his swollen veins ? Thus when one feels that anger is approaching him, he should touch (or lie down on) the earth. عنه عليه السلام : ظَفِرَ بالشيطانِ مَن غَلَبَ غَضَبَهُ ، ظَفِرَ الشيطانُ بِمَن مَلَكَهُ غَضَبُهُ Imam Ali (a) said: Satan wins over the one who is overcome by anger and the one who wins over Satan is the person who overcomes his anger. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3102]

عنه عليه السلام : أعدَى عَدُوٍّ لِلمَرءِ غَضَبُهُ وشَهوَتُهُ ، فَمَن مَلَكَهُما عَلَت درجَتُهُ ، وبَلَغَ غايَتَهُ Imam Ali (a) said: The worst enemies (of human beings) are anger and desires, thus, whoever is able to control them, attains a high station and accomplishes his ultimate goals. عنه عليه السلام - مِنكتابٍ لَهُ للأشتَرِ لَمّا وَلاّهُ مِصرَ - : اِملِكْ حَمِيَّةَ أنفِكَ، وسَورَةَ حَدِّكَ، وسَطوَةَ يَدِكَ، وغَربَ لسانِكَ، واحتَرِسْ مِن كُلِّ ذلكَ بكَفِّ البادِرَةِ ، وتَأخِيرِ السَّطوَةِ،..... Imam Ali (a) in his letter to Malik Ashtar when he appointed him as governor of Egypt, wrote: …Take care and keep control over your temper, your anger and your desire to be arrogant and vain. Take care of your hands when you are out to deliver punishment and of the sharpness of your tongue when you are saying harsh things.… [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 53]…

... وارفَعْ بَصَرَكَ إلَى السماءِ عندَ ما يَحضُرُكَ مِنهُ حتّى يَسكُنَ غَضَبُكَ فَتَملِكَ الاختِيارَ، ولَن تُحكِمَ ذلكَ مِن نفسِكَ حتَّى تُكثِرَ هُمُومَكَ بِذِكرِ المَعادِ إليرَبِّكَ …The best way to achieve this is not to be hasty in making remarks and to delay in delivering punishment so that you may keep your temper under control and are not overexcited. And you cannot achieve this unless you constantly remember that you have to return to God and unless His fear overcomes every other sentiment. [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 53][Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 148]

الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : أقوَى الناسِ مَن قَوِيَ عَلى غَضبِهِ بِحِلمِهِ Imam Ali (a) said: The most powerful person among people is the one who is victorious over his anger with his forbearance. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3182]

الإمامُ الصّادقُ عليه السلام : ما مِن جُرعَةٍ يَتَجَرَّعُهاالعَبدُ أحَبّإلَىاللَّهِ عَزَّوجلّمِنجُرعَةِ غَيظٍ يَتَجَرَّعُها عِندَ تَرَدُّدِها في قَلبِهِ ، إمّا بِصَبرٍ وإمّا بِحِلمٍ Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: The best drink that a servant drinks which is loved by God, the all-powerful and the magnificent, among all the drinks is that of anger, which when gets into his heart, he repels it with either patience (and) or forbearance. الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام - مِن كتابٍ لَهُ إلَى الحارثِ الهَمْدانيِّ - : وَاكظِمِ الغَيظَ ، وتَجاوَزْ عندَ المَقدِرَةِ ، واحلُمْ عندَ الغَضَبِ ، واصفَحْ مَع الدَّولَةِ ؛ تَكُنْ لكَ العاقِبَةُ Imam Ali (a) in a letter to Harith Hamdani wrote: …And overcome your high temper, don’t exceed limits while you have authority, practice forbearance when you are in anger, and forgive (often) while you govern, so for you will be better end (you will be successful). الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : مَن طَلَبَ شِفا غَيظٍ بغَيرِ حَقٍّ ، أذاقَهُ اللَّهُ هَواناً بِحَقٍّ Imam Ali (a) said: The one who quenches the fire of his anger unjustly on someone, God will justly make him taste the disgrace (in return). [Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 207]

الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام : مَكتوبٌ في التَّوراةِ... : يا موسى ، أمسِكْ غَضَبَكَ عَمَّن مَلَّكتُكَ علَيهِ ، أكُفَّ عنكَ غَضَبِي It is reported from Imam Al ‑ Baqir (a): It is recorded in the Torah regarding which God Almighty confided to Moses (a), saying: "O Moses, control your anger towards those over whom I have given you authority, so that I may spare you from My Wrath.” [Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 302, hadith # 7]

المسيحُ عليه السلام - لَمّا سألَهُ الحَوارِيُّونَ : أيُّ الأشياءِ أشَدُّ ؟ - : أشَدُّ الأشياءِ غَضَبُ اللَّهِ. قالوا : فيما يُتَّقى غَضَبُ اللَّهِ ؟ قال : بأن لا تَغضَبُوا Jesus (a) was asked by his companions: Which is most severe of all the things ? He replied: The anger of God. He was asked: What is the way to get protected from the anger of God ? He replied: Don’t get angry. [Mishkat al-Anwar, p. 219]

Imam Al-Baqir (a) said : When a person gets angry while he is standing, he should sit down because this will remove the filth of Satan (from him) and if he is sitting while in anger, he should stand up. عنه عليه السلام : كانَ صلى الله عليه وآله لايَغضَبُ للدنيا ، فإذا أغضَبَهُ الحقُّ لَم يَعرِفْهُ أحَدٌ ولم يَقُمْ لِغَضَبِهِ شَيءٌ حتّى يَنتَصِرَ لَهُ Imam Ali (a) said: The Prophet of God (s) never used to get angry for the sake of world, but when he would get angry for the sake of righteousness, no one would recognize him and no one could stop his anger until he would achieve the victory over the matter (settle the right). عنه عليه السلام : مَن أحَدَّ سِنانَ الغَضَبِ للَّهِِ سبحانَهُ ، قَوِيَ على أشدّاءِ الباطِلِ Imam Ali (a) said: Whoever prepares to use his anger for the sake of God, he will be able to defeat the most powerful of the those on the path of evil. [Mustadarak al-Wasail, vol.12, p.200, hadith # 13877]

عنه عليه السلام : مَن شَنِئ الفاسِقينَ وغَضِبَ للَّهِِ ، غَضِبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ وأرضاهُ يومَ القِيامَةِ Imam Ali (a) said: Whoever is angry with the evildoers only for the sake of God, then God will be angry on his enemies and will be pleased with him on the Day of Judgment. موسي عليه السلام : ياربِّ ، مَن أهلُكَ الذينَ تُظِلُّهُم في ظِلِّ عَرشِكَ يومَ لا ظِلَّ إلّا ظِلُّكَ ؟ فَأوحَى اللَّهُ إلَيهِ :... والذينَ يَغضَبُونَ لِمَحارِمي إذا استُحِلَّت مِثلَ النِّمِرِ إذا جُرِحَ ! Prophet Moses (a) asked God: Who are your special servants that will be under the shadow of your arsh on the day when there will be no shadow except from you ? God replied: These are those servants of mine who, when my forbidden was made permissible, were angered like an injured tiger…. [Wasail al-shia, vol. 11, p. 416, hadith # 3]

الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام - عندَ وَداعِ أبي ذَرٍّ لَمّا سَيَّرَهُ عثمانُ إلَى الرَّبَذَةِ - : يا أبا ذَرٍّ ، إنّك إنّما غَضِبتَ للَّهِِ عَزَّوجلَّ ، فَارجُ مَن غَضِبتَ لَهُ ، إنّ القَومَ خافُوكَ على دُنياهُم وخِفتَهُم... Imam Ali (a) when saying goodbye to Hazrat Abuzar who was banished to Rabza by Caliph Uthman said: O Abuzar ! You were angered for the sake of God the powerful and the magnificent, so hope from Him for Whose sake you were angry. These people are afraid of you for the sake of their world, while you are concerned about your religion because of them…

... على دِينِكَ ، فَأرحَلُوكَ عَن الفِناءِ وامتَحَنُوكَ بالبَلاءِ ، وواللَّهِ لو كانَتِ السماواتُ والأرضُ على عَبدٍ رَتقاً ثُمّ اتَّقَى اللَّهَ عَزَّوجلَّ جَعَلَ لَهُ مِنها مَخرَجاً ، فلا يُؤنِسْكَ إلّا الحَقُّ ، ولا يُوحِشْكَ إلّا الباطِلُ …thus they pushed you towards destruction and forced you in hardships. By God ! Even if all the heavens and earth are closed upon a servant who fears God, then God will open for him the ways (towards heaven and earth)…Thus you should be only interested in righteousness and be only anxious of falsehood… [Al-Kafi, vol. 8, p. 206, hadith # 251]

عنه عليه السلام : المؤمنُ إذا غَضِبَ لَم يُخرِجْهُ غَضَبُهُ مِن حَقٍّ ، وإذا رَضِيَ لم يُدخِلْهُ رِضاهُ في باطِلٍ ، والذي إذا قَدَرَ لم يَأخُذْ أكثَرَ مِمّا لَهُ Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: When a believer gets angry, his anger doesn’t deviate him from the path of righteousness, and when he is happy, his happiness doesn’t force him towards evil, and when in power, he doesn’t take for himself, more than what he deserves. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 278, hadith # 33]
