۱۸۶۳ - فَضلُ التَّقوى‏
۱۸۶۳. THE VIRTUE OF GODWARINESS
(وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُرَى‏ آمَنُوا وَاتَّقَوْا لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَرَكَاتٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالأَرْضِ وَلكِنْ كَذَّبُوا فَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ) .۱
"If the people of the towns had been faithful and Godwary, We would have opened to them blessings from the heaven and the earth. But they denied; so We seized them because of what they used to earn." ۲

(ذلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدىً لِلْمُتَّقِينَ ... أُولئِكَ عَلَى‏ هُدىً مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَأُولئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ) .۳
"This is the Book, there is no doubt in it, a guidance to the Godwary...those who follow their Lord's guidance, and it is they who are the felicitous." ۴

(وَللَّهِ‏ِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَإِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإنَّ للَّهِ‏ِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَنِيّاً حَمِيداً) .۵
"To Allah belongs whatever is in the Heavens and whatever is on the earth. We have certainly enjoined those who were given the Book before you, and you, that you should be wary of Allah. But if you are faithless, [you should know that] to Allah indeed belongs whatever is in the Heavens and whatever is on the earth, and Allah is all-sufficient, all-laudable." ۶

(يَا بَنِي آدَمَ قَدْ أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاساً يُوَارِي سَوْآتِكُمْ وَرِيشاً وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَى‏ ذلِكَ خَيْرٌ ذلِكَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ) .۷
"O Children of Adam! We have certainly sent down to you garments to cover your nakedness, and for adornment. Yet the garment of Godwariness - that is the best. That is [one] of Allah's signs, so that they may take admonition." ۸

(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنْ تَتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ فُرْقَاناً وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ) .۹
"O you who have faith! If you are wary of Allah, He shall appoint a criterion for you, and absolve you of your misdeeds, and forgive you, for Allah is dispenser of a great grace." ۱۰

(تِلْكَ الدَّارُ الآخِرَةُ نَجْعَلُهَا لِلَّذِينَ لَايُرِيدُونَ عُلُوّاً فِي الأرْضِ وَلَا فَسَاداً وَالعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ) .۱۱
"This is the abode of the Hereafter which We shall grant to those who do not desire to domineer in the earth nor to cause corruption, and the outcome will be in favour of the Godwary." ۱۲

۶۶۴۷.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : التُّقى‏ رئيسُ الأخلاقِ .۱۳
۶۶۴۷.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Godwariness is the leader of moral virtues.' ۱۴

۶۶۴۸.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ التَّقوى‏ أفضَلُ كَنزٍ ، وأحرَزُ حِرزٍ ، وأعَزُّ عِزٍّ ، فيهِ نَجاةُ كُلِّ هارِبٍ ، ودَركُ كُلِّ طالِبٍ ، وظَفَرُ كُلِّ غالِبٍ .۱۵
۶۶۴۸.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Godwariness is the best treasure and the most protective guard. In it is the salvation of every runaway, the goal of every seeker, and the victory of every conqueror.' ۱۶

۶۶۴۹.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اِتَّقِ اللَّهَ بَعضَ التُّقى‏ وإن قَلَّ ، واجعَلْ بَينَكَ وبَينَ اللَّهِ سِتراً وإن رَقَّ .۱۷
۶۶۴۹.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Fear Allah with some Godwariness even if it be little, and place a veil [of shame] between yourself and Allah even if it be thin.' ۱۸

۶۶۵۰.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ التَّقوى‏ مُنتَهى‏ رِضَى اللَّهِ مِن عِبادِهِ وحاجَتِهِ مِن خَلقِهِ .۱۹
۶۶۵۰.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Godwariness is the ultimate contentment of Allah with His servants and His demand from His creation.' ۲۰

۶۶۵۱.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: اُوصِيكُم عِبادَاللَّهِ بتَقوَى اللَّهِ الّتي هِي الزّادُ وبِها المَعاذُ ، زادٌ مُبلِغٌ ، ومَعاذٌ مُنجِحٌ .۲۱
۶۶۵۱.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'I advise you, O servants of Allah, to be wary of your duty to Allah which is the provision and in it is the refuge; it is ample provision and a successful refuge.' ۲۲

۶۶۵۲.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اُوصِيكُم عِبادَ اللَّهِ بتَقوَى اللَّهِ ، فإنَّها الزِّمامُ والقِوامُ، فتَمَسَّكوا بوَثائقِها، واعتَصِموا بحَقائقها.۲۳
۶۶۵۲.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'I advise you, O servants of Allah, to be wary of your duty to Allah, for it is the rein and the firm foundation. So, hold onto its proofs and cling onto its realities.' ۲۴

۶۶۵۳.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : اُوصِيكُم بتَقوَى اللَّهِ ؛ فإنّها غِبطَةُ الطّالِبِ الرّاجي ، وثِقَةُ الهارِبِ اللّاجِي ، واستَشعِروا التَّقوى‏ شِعاراً باطِناً .۲۵
۶۶۵۳.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'I advise you to be wary of your duty to Allah, for it is the goal of a hopeful seeker, the assurance of the runaway refuge, so make Godwariness your inner basis.' ۲۶

۶۶۵۴.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام: اُوصِيكُم بتَقوَى اللَّهِ... وأشعِروها قُلوبَكُم ، وارحَضوا بِها ذُنوبَكُم ... ألا فَصُونوها وتَصَوَّنُوا بِها .۲۷
۶۶۵۴.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'I advise you to be wary of your duty to Allah...make your hearts feel it, and rinse out your sins with it... indeed safeguard it and be safeguarded by it.' ۲۸

۶۶۵۵.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ التَّقوى‏ في اليَومِ الحِرزُ والجُنَّةُ ، وفي غَدٍ الطّريقُ إلَى الجَنَّةِ ، مَسلَكُها واضِحٌ وسالِكُها رابِحٌ .۲۹
۶۶۵۵.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Godwariness of Allah is a guard and a shield for today, and a path to Heaven tomorrow; its trail is clear and the one who traverses it is victorious.' ۳۰

۶۶۵۶.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : إنّ تَقوَى اللَّهِ مِفتاحُ سَدادٍ ، وذَخيرَةُ مَعادٍ ، وعِتقٌ مِن كُلِّ مَلَكَةٍ ، ونَجاةٌ مِن كُلِّ هَلَكَةٍ ، بِها يَنجَحُ الطّالِبُ ، ويَنجو الهارِبُ ، وتُنال الرَّغائبُ .۳۱
۶۶۵۶.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Godwariness is the key to appropriate behaviour, a store for the Hereafter, freedom from every habit, salvation from every type of ruin, with it a seeker is successful, a runaway is saved, and wishes are acquired.' ۳۲

۶۶۵۷.الإمامُ عليٌّ عليه السلام : مَن غَرَسَ أشجارَ التُّقى‏ جَنى‏ ثِمارَ الهُدى‏ .۳۳
۶۶۵۷.Imam Ali (AS) said, 'Whoever plants the trees of Godwariness will reap the fruits of guidance.' ۳۴

۶۶۵۸.الإمامُ الباقرُ عليه السلام - لِسَعدِ الخَيرِ - : اُوصِيكَ بِتَقوَى اللَّهِ ؛ فإنّ فيها السَّلامَةَ مِن التَّلَفِ ، والغَنيمَةَ في المُنقَلَبِ.۳۵
۶۶۵۸. Imam al-Baqir (AS), speaking to Sad al-Khayr said, 'I advise you to be wary of your duty to Allah, for in it is safety from ruin, and a gain in the Hereafter.' ۳۶
